Superhero Birthday Party
Two years in a row my 4 year old has requested a superhero themed party - thank goodness I saved the decor from his 3rd birthday, ha! This year, though, took the cake. He was on cloud 9 the entire time and the decor turned out pretty darn cute, I gotta say.
Let’s start with the cake. The inside was a chocolate cake base layered with cookies and cream icing, nutella, and oreo crumbs. The cupcakes were the same, except I hollowed out the middle and filled them with nutella before topping them with the icing and cookie. The cake decor was very simple. I covered the cake in a basic vanilla buttercream and then piped on clouds, smoothing them down with an icing spatula. His favorite hulk action figure stood on top with wire wrapped around his wrist, helping him hold up the balloons. For the cupcakes I printed off these downloads from etsy on card stock, cut them out, and taped them to a toothpick to make my own cupcake toppers!
The dessert table. This was the star of the show and he was so thrilled with all the themed desserts! Aside from cake and cupcakes I made these Hulk pudding cups. These were so simple to make - I drew angry faces on small plastic cups, whipped up a few batches of vanilla pudding, dyed it green, and topped them off with crushed oreos for the hair. Captain America’s shield fruit tray was also a huge hit! I made my own fruit dip and used a star cookie cutter in the center of a large plate to hold it in. As for decor, action figures. We used his superhero action figures to interact with and add to the decor. The backdrop was a thrifted bed sheet and the clouds I made last year using recycled plastic pop bottles and pillow fluff!
We kept food very simple and served bbq as he requested. I doodled comic-style letters on our chalkboard, hung more clouds, and made this lime sherbet and titled it “Hulk Punch” … ha, get it!?
Looking for a fun activity for little ones? Consider buying a set of capes or costumes and letting them play dress up! These were such a hit and perfect for kids who aren’t yet at game-playing ages. They played dress up the whole evening!
In conclusion the whole theme was a hit and he’s already talking about his 5-year superhero-themed party, ha!
